Reliability & Maintainability

The purpose of Reliability and Maintainability (R&M) is to make the new equipment (which is to be installed for a new model launch) perform at acceptable levels throughout its designed life. R & M is a methodology that will establish, how Reliable equipment and tooling will be and how easy it will be to Maintain. The R & M activities will save a company money when deployed correctly.

Topics that are covered in the course presentation  include :
  •  R & M basic principles
  •  Life Cycle Costs (LCC)
  •  Reliability Block Diagrams
  •  Fault Tree Analysis
  •  Failure Reporting and Corrective Action systems
  •  Mean Time To Failure (MTTF)
  •  Mean Time To Repair (MTTR)
  •  Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
  •  Machinery FMEA linkage
The basic objectives of the course are :
  •  To ensure participants have a full understanding of how the various activities and calculations interface with each other.
  •  To coach a participant with no current understanding of R & M into gaining a working knowledge of  the topics associated with R & M
  •  To explain the practical requirements for an effective R & M implementation.
  •  To explain how Machinery FMEA relates to R & M activities.

The course is available as :

  •  4 hour Awareness Session
  •  2 day Training course

Awareness Session

A 4 hour Introduction giving an understanding of the terminology and metrics used within R & M of equipment in the manufacturing environment. The phases of equipment life and the true costs will be appreciated. The R & M metrics and how to calculate them will be understood.

Training Course

Recommended Attendees

Product Design, Manufacturing, Quality Control, Supplier Liaison personnel

Course Outcomes

On completion the attendee will be able to :

  •  Understand the importance of R & M.
  •  Appreciate the key aspects & timings of R & M.
  •  Appreciate the real benefit to be gained through understanding the Life Cycle Costs.
  •  Calculate:
    • Life Cycle Costs
    • Mean time to Failure
    • Mean time to Repair
