Design Faliure Mode & Effects Analysis
The Design FMEA is a methodology for assessing risk & identifying any weaknesses
in the functionality of the initial design. It is performed after initial design
schemes are made available to allow the results of the analysis to be
incorporated in an improved design.
This is vital in terms of product performance, quality, cost achievement and
must be done at the earliest opportunity in any launch (this is part of the APQP
requirements). The DFMEA methodology is fundamentally different from Process and
Machinery FMEA encompassing the latest thinking including Robustness linkages.
These include :
- Boundary Diagram
- Interface Matrix
- Function Analysis
- Failure Modes
- Effects of Failure
- Causes of Failure
- Prevention Controls
- Detection Control
- Practical application of the Ranking Tables
- Classifications
- Establishing Priority
- Recommended Actions
- Ongoing maintenance of your DFMEA
The basic objectives of the course are :
-
To ensure participants have a full understanding of the linkages between Design
FMEA, Process FMEA and Machinery FMEA
-
To coach a participant with no current understanding of Design FMEA into
gaining a working knowledge of the methodology
-
To explain the importance of Function and the relationships between them
-
To explain the practical requirements for a timely FMEA to maximise the benefit
at minimal cost
-
& To outline the importance of the recommended actions
-
To assist with the
learning the Application Workshop & Facilitated Deployment is conducted on a
product of your choice.
The course is available as :
- 1 day Awareness Session
- 2 day Application Workshop
- 4 day Facilitated Deployment
- 3 day Subject Facilitator training
Recommended Attendees
Product Design, Manufacturing, Quality Control, Supplier Liaison personnel
A 1 Day introduction to Design FMEA. Delegates will understand the use of
function trees, ranking tables & typical
mistakes and errors. The importance of timing and teamwork in any product launch
programme.
Application Workshop
On completion the attendee will be able to :
-
Understand the importance of Design FMEA
-
Appreciate the need to think in terms of ‘Functionality’
-
Know how to conduct a Design FMEA
-
Appreciate the challenges faced in the practical deployment of Design FMEA and
how to tackle the challenge in a time efficient manner.
The emphasis of this course, in addition to teaching the practical application
of the methodology, is to continue with the task utilising the software to
successful completion of the Design FMEA.
The emphasis of this course, in addition to teaching the practical application
of the methodology, is to enable the delegates to be successful Facilitators
able to lead Design FMEA teams.
All training is provided conveniently at your own site for up to 10 delegates.
All you need to provide is the room, your normal catering & of course the
delegates.
